on my birthday

This picture is me.

It is about renewal and rebirth in the cradle of the city that renewed a massive
piece of our consciousness.  It is about ends and beginnings, on a trip following the
death of my mother, back to the city where my older daughter was conceived;
this picture was taken on her 24th birthday.

The curves of the door and of the bike evoke for me Goethe's line, the last in Faust,
"Das ewig weibliche zieht uns hinan."
The gold leaf makes a magic wall and expresses the shower of light from above
that started me taking this picture.

The bicycle's wheels are still now.... we know that they will turn but not for whom.
We know that they will make their cycle and we hope that we will make ours.
This year when I died one day is over, and a new one begins.
I hope to live all its days well.

Thanks for being there.

at the center of the universe

The earth is at the center of the universe....

Strange to say, the earth is at the center of the universe.  This flies in the face of Galilean and
Copernican wisdom, but it is true.  Look at it this way.  If you stare out from earth to the edge of
the universe, using those tools that scientists use to stare, there is a limit to how far you can see.
That limit is a function of the speed of light, the time the universe has been in existence, and the time
it takes for the light to reach us.  And of course it depends on the fact that the universe is expanding.

It happens that the universe has been in existence longer than there has been time for the light from
that beginning to reach us.  Therefore there is a limit to how far we can see.  That limit is the same in
every direction that we look.  Therefore the earth is at the center of a sphere comprised of what
can be looked at in every direction from the earth, and the earth is at the center of the universe
that is visible to it.  Maybe this is a fudge..... to say that the earth is at the center of the
visible universe, not of the real universe, but, then I ask ..... how do we know what
is beyond the edge of what we can see?

So, this means that the earth is at the center of the universe.... quite a position to be in.
It also means, by a little extension, that I am at the center of the universe as are you.
Actually I have my universe and you have yours.
Interesting to think of all those universes walking down the street together
and what sharings are possible.  To paraphrase Bob Dylan,

"I'll be in your universe if you'll be in mine."
